Statement of Faith

It is almost impossible to explain in a short paragraph all that the Christian Faith involves, but in an attempt to share with you what we at St. David’s hold as the essentials of our faith, we have written the following Statement of Faith:

We Believe,
In the Holy Scriptures: as that portion of God’s revelation that has been committed to writing for our knowledge of Him and of His love for us. Through its message God has given us a glimpse of His eternal purpose and plan. And we are committed to its authority in our lives.
In the Holy Trinity: The Bible clearly reveals that there is One God, One Divine Being (Deut. 6:4, Eph. 4:6) who is Three in Persons, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, (Matt. 28:19). Not Three gods but One God. The Son fully shares in the divine nature of the Father and of the Spirit, (John 1:1, Matt. 1:23, Rom. 9:5), and the Spirit fully shares in the divine nature of the Father and of the Son (2 Cor. 3:17, Acts 5:3-4).
In the Incarnation of Jesus Christ: Jesus as God existed from eternity with the Father and the Holy Spirit and in accordance with God’s plan of salvation, at the appointed time, He became human. In so doing He did not cease in any way being God, but through His Incarnation He became the God-Man.
In Jesus’ Death on the Cross as a substitution for the penalty our sins would require. We sin in thought, word and action. By things done that we should not have done and by things left undone that we should have done. The Bible says that we all fall short of the glory of God. These sins require payment as when you go before a judge for something illegal you have done. God, in His great love for humanity has accepted that payment from His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus’ death assures us that our debt is paid in full. We are able, through Jesus’ sacrifice, to live in harmony with God.
In the Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ: On the third day after His death, Jesus rose from the dead in bodily form. The same Jesus who died crucified was the same Jesus who rose victorious from the grave. Our own resurrection is guaranteed because death could not hold Him down.
In Jesus’ Return: After His resurrection Jesus ascended to heaven and is in the position of authority at the right hand of the Father. From there He intercedes for us before His Father. He will return again at the appointed time to bring unto Himself His Church, that where He is we would be also.
In the Gifts of the Sprit: we have not been left orphans or alone until Jesus’ return. The Holy Spirit is present with and in us. God is still with us, working, loving, and equipping His Church through Spiritual Gifts (1 Cor. 12, Eph. 4:11-16).
Salvation by Faith Alone: All the above benefits of being a Christian are available to us through Faith Alone and can not be obtained by any other means or action on our part. When you come to faith in God all of His Grace and Love are poured into us.

Of course there is more that can and must be said about what we as Christians believe, but these are some of the essentials by which you will know what we at St. David’s hold as true and necessary for our salvation. We invite you to further inquire about our faith.
