Men's Ministries
17:17 Men's Ministry - Tom Leney and Spencer Johnson
Our Purpose:The 17:17 Ministry is a fellowship for Christian men to meet together in order to build friendships, learn from one another about living the Christian life, and to support and help one another in their walk with Jesus. All Men Are Welcome.
Where does the name of our ministry come from?
Proverbs 17:17
A friend loves for all time,
... And a brother is born for adversity.
"Proverbs 17:17 defines the kind of friendship that a brother provides. To say that a friend loves at all times means that there is no "time-out" in friendship. The point is faithfulness in the time of need. The true measure of friendship is how well they stick when things are not going well.
The Hebrew word for "love" in this verse has almost as wide a range of meaning as the English word does. The Greek translation made before the time of Christ is very interesting. Rather than using either of the main words for "love" (agape or philia), the Greek Old Testament of Proverbs 17:17 reads, "A friend will be there for you in every kind of time." The parallel thought in the second line is that brothers are born to share adversity. The expression "are born for" reveals an important biblical truth. The purpose of life is not to achieve personal fulfillment but to be in a meaningful covenant relationship with someone else. The proverb understands that the very reason for a person’s life is to be present for another person regardless of how difficult life may be for that other person." (The Voice)
When we meet:
The 17:17 meets once a month throughout the year, mostly on the third (3rd) Saturday morning at 8:00 AM for two hours. We break bread with each other over breakfast, have a discussion on a variety of topics, and then we close in prayer.
We also attend the annual Anglican Men’s Retreat in May; Sponsor a Church wide Dodger Game; and help facilitate the Annual Church picnic as well as sponsor out reach opportunities within the surrounding community.
Got Prayer?
To help facilitate the prayer needs of our men’s ministry, we have create a Google Group site that enables interested members to post prayer requests that get emailed to all members who have agreed to pray for all requests received. This process allows us to stay connected throughout the month with our prayer needs and also allows us to communicate important information to all men.
