Outreach Ministry
St David’s Outreach Ministry’s vision is to take Jesus to others in the Power of the Holy Spirit by reaching out to those who are in need within our local parish, our local community, and our global community.
We want to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the poor, proclaim freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor to the broken, the disenfranchised, the depressed, and the sick (Luke 4:17-19) - not only through our word but also through our deeds as we embody the love of God to the least of these brothers and sisters (Matthew 22:39; 25: 31-36).
AIDS Lunch
St David’s has been serving lunch at USC-LA County General Hospital for almost twenty years. Each Second Monday of the month, members of our church bring sandwiches, fruit, chips, juice, and salads and serve between 80-90 adults waiting to be seen by a doctor. This may be their only meal of the day. Our team also provides thirty sack lunches for the Children’s AIDS clinic as well. The team meets at St David’s at 10am to load the lunches and tables and travel to the hospital. They serve lunch at 11am and return to the Church by 12:30pm. Once a month for three hours, those who volunteer get a chance to share the love of Jesus with those who need to feel and see that love in tangible ways. If one cannot commit to the three hours and yet still wants to participate in this ministry; then one can commit to an hour on the second Sunday of each month at 9am when a crews meets together to prepare the lunches for the following day. Bill Coburn and Barbara Morales welcome any volunteers who wants to join them in this great ministry. Contact information is: campcoburn@sbcglobal.net or call the church office for more details.
Homeless Breakfast
The Homeless Feeding Ministry of St. David's takes into account that God has commanded all of us to Love our Neighbor as Ourselves and that Love for Neighbor is best exemplified by the words of Jesus in Matthew25:35-36 (The Parable of the Goats and the Sheep): 'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Our ministry is part of the Outreach Ministry of our church. Each Saturday morning a team of our members and other friends gather together to cook a hot breakfast for the homeless community around our church, we provide also a sack-lunch and clothing. Through our Manna ministry we also provide food for those who come to our doors during the week.
Annually we celebrate with them important holidays such as Christmas and give them gifts. We have been blessed to have been doing this ministry for the last 15 years. We would like to encourage you to be involved with us in this ministry. Love your neighbor as yourself! Please see Maly Poch or Deborah Chase or contact the church office to see how you can be part of this ministry.
Habitat for Humanity
Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1) St David’s is now partnering with Habitat for Humanity in not only building new houses but also providing lunches for crews who are building as well as helping organizing materials for the builds. We are also partnering in prayer with Habitat for resources for building materials as well as more open doors to minister to those who need permanent housing. Contact Fr. Charles at the church office for more details.
Hospitality
St David’s is know for its diverse and welcoming community and nothing expresses this better than our hospitality. Hospitality is seen through out the Scriptures as family and friends gathered for meals to make conversation or covenant. In fact the writer of Hebrews: Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it (Hebrews 13:2). Our potluck Sundays and special events reflect our multi-cultural heritage. We have food from all over the world. We experience delights from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, as well as from cultures here in the United States. Joyce Okene and Christiana Udeozor-Bosah who oversee the volunteers for hospitality do a great job orchestrating both the set up of the parish hall and sign up sheet for those who are providing food. If you would like to sign up to provide food for a Sunday or donate money to offset some of the cost please call the church office for more details on how you can participate in Hospitality.
The Outreach Committee also partners with these ministries in special projects to reach out to our community: The Los Angeles Mission/Urban Institute Training, Union Rescue Mission, San Fernando Valley Faith Coalition , and The Valley Rescue Mission.
